1-23 This week in Language Arts the students produced and performed an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's story "The Three Questions" into a short play called "The Lost King". They also completed a character mapping sheet for the short play. Students not wishing to participate in Play in a Day read the non fiction reflective essay "Everest" and wrote their own reflective essay about a challenging experience. On Wednesday, we will read the article "Escape from Slavery" about Harriet Tubman and complete activities reviewing central ideas and details, text evidence, text structure and tone. There will be a quiz over all of the readings in January on February 1st as well as over the vocabulary developed this month.

11-15 This week in Language Arts we have finished reading The Westing Game and are now working on an extension activity and studying for a comprehension quiz which will take place on Tuesday, November 21st. I assigned the extension project menu of options today, and the students will be choosing which option they would like to work on with my guidance over the next two class periods. The essay prompts will be given out tomorrow, and the formal essay will be due on December 5th (with guided practice and peer review the week we return from Thanksgiving). Lastly, the third book evaluation is due on November 30th. Thanksgiving Break is an ample time to get caught up on the independent reading for this semester, and I am also encouraging the students to always have their reading book with them in class in case they have extra time (reading time is also a requirement during 4th hour classes).
